Tribonian

Finest legal mind of the sixth century, to whom must go much of the credit for the legislative work of Justinian I (q.v.). He was first chosen by Justinian I to be Quaestor (q.v.) of the Sacred Palace, which is to say the supreme legal minister of the empire. Justinian I appointed him to head the commission of legal scholars that created the Corpus Juris Civilis (q.v.), arguably the most glorious achievement of Justinian I's reign.
